Most project managers learn through experience after a high-level theoretical education. Throughout my career I noticed that very few organizations and very few project managers did a good job at project chartering, and this was single-handedly damaging the ability of the organization to execute projects well in spite of any talent or strategy that might be available.

I am an experienced senior project manager and PMO leader in my 10th year as a PMP and 16th year as a project professional. I have managed projects spanning everything from building video game fan communities to the implementation of a 4-dimensional virtual human model and many interesting things in between. I have designed and implemented project management practices and PMOs at organizations running projects with budgets less than $100,000 all the way to several billion dollars. Through all these experiences I became fascinated by the striking common failure points shared reliably across organizations no matter which industry or level of maturity. I gathered my observations of how organizations and projects interact for success or failure into the Value Delivery Competency Model and now I’m working on building skills through Analyte Academy and speaking engagements that will help organizations and project managers overcome these barriers to success.
Through my consulting firm and Analyte Academy I’m able to bring my analytical mind, powerful observations, and passion for precise solutions to complex problems to help maximize execution for project managers and organizations that want to be better.
In this brave new world we are entering post-pandemic, I think all organizations will need to care about the value they deliver and refine their practices to ruthlessly deliver it.
When not helping design organizational chemistry for value delivery, I can be found hanging with my 9 year old son or 4 nephews, paddling a dragon boat, or putting together fresh ingredients to delicious ends in my kitchen.
